GumGauge and Imperial College Rugby have expanded their partnership for the 2025 season, with i/impact indicators now issued to every player in the squad — both new freshers and returning members.
What began as a pilot initiative has grown into one of GumGauge's most established partnerships, spanning multiple seasons and hundreds of match appearances. Imperial College Rugby has been central to developing how GumGauge is used in a university rugby environment.
Fresher trials — first-ever use for many players
The 2025 partnership kicked off at Imperial's fresher trials, where new players used GumGauge for the very first time. For many, it was their introduction to the concept of objective impact monitoring on the pitch — and the response was universally positive.
Coaches found the indicators immediately useful during training contact sessions — the visible signal giving them a consistent, objective prompt to check on a player rather than relying solely on what they could observe.
Building on a strong foundation
Imperial College Rugby's multi-season commitment to GumGauge reflects a genuine belief in the value of objective impact awareness at university level. The club has used GumGauge across league fixtures, cup competitions, and internal training — providing GumGauge with invaluable real-world feedback that has shaped the product's development.
GumGauge is an objective tool to support sideline decision-making. It is not a diagnostic device, and does not replace assessment by a qualified individual.
